Speed cameras cut speeds by up to 50 percent: Stoodley

A province wide rollout of speed cameras is coming.

The province is going high tech and installing speed cameras. The city of Mount Pearl and the town of Paradise will have speed cameras installed at a number of locations on June 1st. Minister Sarah Stoodley says there's obvious proof that speed cameras work, reducing speeds by 30-50 percent. She says slower speeds mean less accidents. Minister Stoodley says this is a pilot project but eventually cameras will be installed throughout the province. Registered vehicle owners in the pilot project areas will be sent warnings if caught speeding.
