More work needed on report about pay equity: Status of Women Council

    Paula Sheppard-Thibeau

The Corner Brook Status of Women believes more time and changes are needed on a report about pay equity.

Executive Director Paula Sheppard-Thibeau says over the past month, members of the Provincial Action Network on the Status of Women (PANSOW) have taken part in consultations about Bill 3: An Act Respecting Pay Equity for the Public Sector and Pay Transparency for the Public and Private Sectors. She says the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour (NLFL), has also recommended a rewrite of Bill 3 to better serve women and other marginalized workers. Sheppard-Thibeau says pay equity is recognized as a fundamental human right internationally, but not here in the province. She says pay equity should also be applied to contract work. Sheppard-Thibeau says there is still enough time to go back and have the bill re-drafted
